BBL™ Laser Skin Resurfacing

If brown spots or redness are prematurely aging your face, BBL by Sciton® offers the latest laser resurfacing technology to eliminate years of skin damage. BroadBand Light™ therapy (‘BBL’) is a non-surgical skin renewing treatment that can clear age spots, sun damage, red blemishes, and other pigmentation issues that may be contributing to a dull or aged look.

For patients struggling to maintain an even skin tone with their daily skincare regimen alone, or for those who would like to proactively treat their skin to avoid blemishes in the future, BBL™ can be a highly effective solution to erase some of the most common skin imperfections for a softer, more radiant complexion.

What is BroadBand Light™ by Sciton®?

BBL™ is an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment that uses short bursts of high-intensity light energy to gently heat the deeper layers, as well as the surface, of the skin. As the photothermal energy is delivered to the face, chest, hands, or shoulders, damaged skin cells in the targeted region(s) begin to slough off. This encourages the growth of newer, healthier skin cells while increasing your body’s natural collagen production. The result is typically a more vibrant and youthful complexion achieved without surgery or extensive downtime.

What Concerns Can Be Treated With BBL™?

One of the primary benefits of BBL™ is that this advanced non-surgical treatment is versatile enough to treat a wide range of the most common skin flaws, including:

In one long-term ten-year study of the technology, patients who received regular BBL™ treatments over the course of a decade were judged by doctors to look even younger than they did before the study began. Plus, BBL™ has been proven to be safe and effective for most skin types and treatment settings can be customised according to your unique needs.

How Does BBL™ Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

BBL™ treatments are performed in-office and usually take 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the affected region. During the appointment, your eyes will be shielded by protective glasses. There is typically no anesthesia necessary, although your clinician can apply a topical numbing agent on more sensitive areas if desired. You may feel a sensation similar to a rubber band snapping as the laser passes over your skin—this is a normal and expected part of treatment. As short bursts of light are delivered to the targeted area(s), cooling capabilities that are built into the technology should help soothe the treated skin and further reduce discomfort. While redness is common after BBL™, there is usually no downtime necessary.

Are There Any Side Effects From BBL™?

While serious side effects after BBL™ are very rare, redness may persist for a few hours after your treatment. Some pigmented lesions may also temporarily appear darker, but these area(s) should flake off as damaged skin cells are replaced by newer, smoother skin. In general, the best results are observed when patients undergo multiple BBL™ treatments per year.
